Deva Chari

Senior Vice President
Nuclear Power Plant
Project Delivery
Westinghouse Electric Company

As senior vice president, Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Project Delivery, Deva Chari is responsible for the delivery of new plant projects to Westinghouse customers worldwide. He ensures that key project milestones are met on schedule, in a safe, high-quality and cost-effective manner. Current areas of focus are the implementation of projects in the United States, China, Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He assumed this position in April 2012.

Mr. Chari comes to this position from several previous leadership roles within the NPP organization. In those roles, he was responsible for managing the global deployment of new power plants; developing and instituting the common processes and procedures that underpin project execution; and deploying resources to specific new plant projects. He also was responsible for global deployment of AP1000 projects and oversaw the relationship with The Shaw Group, Inc., Westinghouse’s consortium partner, in executing these projects.

Previously, Mr. Chari was the proposal leader for the AP1000 project bid to China. In this position, Mr. Chari formed a cross-functional team within Westinghouse, as well as the existing consortium partnership between Westinghouse and The Shaw Group, Inc. The overall project bid to China required more than two-and-a-half years of bidding and negotiating, culminating in 2007 with a multi-billion dollar award.

Prior to his position as proposal leader, Mr. Chari was the director of Korea Projects from 2001 to 2004. He was responsible for overall project management of new plant construction projects in Korea, specifically Yonggwang 5&6, Ulchin 5&6, KEDO 1&2, Shin Kori 1&2 and Shin Wolsong 1&2.

From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Chari was the project engineering manager for Yonggwang Units 5&6. In this capacity, Mr. Chari was responsible for Westinghouse technical management of the two units. Prior to this position, Mr. Chari served for approximately 10 years as a start-up manager in Korea, responsible for providing the necessary support during construction and start-up of four power plants.

From 1983 through 1987, Mr. Chari was a start-up and test engineer at Palo Verde 1&2. Prior to this position, Mr. Chari was supervisor, Reload Safety Analyses; and engineer, Safety Analyses.

Mr. Chari holds a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University and has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear power business with strong emphasis on project management and plant start-up operations.
